Local Love

Summer 2019

And they call it Local Love...

Leskard has seen many changes throughout the years...

As Highway 407 nears completion at the end of our road and development continues into eastern Durham Region, we feel it is more important than ever to bring awareness to the natural landscape that is characteristic of our neighbourhood in rural Clarington

Enveloped by a beautiful natural setting, we have developed a deep appreciation for nature and have become aware of its many healing properties.

Facilitators who have visited The Hive have offered ancient rituals related to nature as well as knowledge and wisdom about the health benefits of the plants that grow all around us. We want to share that with you!

Visit our historical property! Join us on the Temperance and Temptation Tour, gather a group for Creative Nature Retreat, Business Retreat or visit us AWCCU Financial's Love Your Local event in Oshawa.

Don't forget to check out the many unique and interesting attractions in Clarington and in the Durham Region. Hope to see you soon!

Temperance & Temptation Tours
Experience the secret stories of Ontario’s silent still. Take a guided journey back in time when the dry days of abstinence led to illicit thirsty nights filled with toe-tapping music, tasty food, hotsy-totsy dancing and plenty of giggle water.
The Hive Centre and Bee & Bee is on the Temperance and Temptation Self-Guided Durham Tour.

Visit our historical site with a heritage church in Leskard. Located at the headwaters of Wilmot Creek, the creek (once a river and large lake) provided power to run mills, enabling the village of Leskard to flourish. During the mid 1800s, Leskard was an active and busy place with two copper shops, stave mills, grist and saw mills, a general store, a hotel, grocery store, a school and three churches. Learn more about the history of The Hive.
Visit our historical property, view a traditional Indigenous sweat lodge and enjoy a moment of temperance. Stay the night and start your journey well-rested as you head to the historic Town of Port Perry, home of the Old Flame Brewing Company
An Invitation from Shayne Traviss
Our good friend and former Hive Advisor, Shayne Traviss, has written a book Your Vivid Life: An Invitation to Live a Radically Authentic Life!
There is so much wisdom in this book... Shayne generously shares perspectives gained through his experience and encourages us to go within to find our own truth and radical authenticity to live a Vivid Life. It is gentle, relatable and insightful. Click to pre-order a copy of "Your Vivid Life"! Read Elsii's review of Shayne's book.
#LoveYourLocal
Visit us at AWCCU Financial's #LoveYourLoval Pop-Up Market on Thursday, September 12 from 4-8pm in Oshawa.
CBOT Business Retreat
It was an absolute pleasure to host the Clarington Board of Trade for a Business Retreat at The Hive Centre.

The group set intentions, explored strengths and obstacles, enjoyed a vegan meal, experienced a Shinrin Yoku/Forest Bathing session, created beautiful nature art, and participated in a closing fireside ceremony.

It was a wonderful day with an
amazing team of individuals who are working hard to fuel economic development and help businesses succeed in the Municipality of Clarington

Honouring Linda

Earlier this year our good friend Linda Paulocik passed away. She was the former Director/Curator at The Station Gallery in Whitby.

Owners of The Hive, Elsii and Kevin, met Linda and each other at the Station Gallery. Linda had a profound impact on their lives – then and now. Linda’s influence is felt at The Hive – she loved and supported the vision and mission.

Click to learn more about an event in October to honour Linda.

Station Gallery Curator, Olex Wlasenko wrote a touching tribute to Linda. Read Remembering Linda.
