Remembering Roots, Moving Forward
It has been a year to remember – remember the people who came before of us, those who have left us, and the unseen allies who are always in our corner.
It is impossible to live in a building that is more than 150 years old without contemplating the fact that we are just a blip on the timeline.
The heritage church that is The Hive Centre was a Methodist church up until the early 1970's. Until about 1995, community gathered at the church (regardless of denomination) for various purposes. The annual Christmas dinner was a favourite activity for many.
We feel that the energy of this place is about offering a space where individuals can connect, share, learn, support and be themselves.
In life, there are many barriers that prevent us from accessing our true nature. Activities and events at The Hive are designed to help us uncover the layers of conditioning and tune in to the authentic self.
This year, we were grateful to host many groups who chose to explore some of the key offerings and activities that we find most useful in the return to the self.
There are big changes ahead for in our area. Highway 407 was recently opened and ends just a few minutes from The Hive. More than ever, we feel it is important to value and preserve the natural characteristics of our region and create safe spaces for people to gather and grow.
We are working on some exciting projects with Durham College and other organizations in the Durham Region and look forward to sharing with you.
We thank you immensely for your contributions to The Hive and wish all things good in 2020!

As part of the tour, visitors were welcome to explore our historical site - located at the headwaters of Wilmot Creek, the creek (once a river and large lake) provided power to run mills, enabling the village of Leskard to flourish. During the mid 1800s, Leskard was an active and busy place with two copper shops, stave mills, grist and saw mills, a general store, a hotel, grocery store, a school and three churches.

Honouring and Remembering

This fall we welcomed the return of Mayan Ajq’iij (Spiritual Guide), Nan Shuni Giron for a Day of Honouring and Remembering. It was a special opportunity to learn about Mayan culture, connect with nature, create with intention and honour our loved ones.

The warm energy of the Station Gallery was certainly present during an event to celebrate our friend and former Director/Curator of the gallery, Linda Paulocik.

Honouring Linda event at The Hive
|
|
It was an honour to connect and share with legendary artists that Linda appreciated and respected so deeply.
If you have ever worked/volunteered/exhibited at the Station Gallery or participated in workshops or attended events there, please remember Linda Paulocik. Linda was the Director/Curator for 30 years. Her contributions and dedication helped lay the foundation of arts and culture in the region. Linda was also a strong supporter of Indigenous artists and art. The Station Gallery`s permanent print collection was initiated by Linda and is filled with incredible pieces including many by Norval Morrisseau.
