Retreat to Nature

Springing Forward 2020

Springing Forward 2020

In mid March the universe pressed pause for many of us. With summer just around the corner, it now feels we have been fast forwarded.

Normally, we would be running in high gear with reservations, maintenance and cleaning. The past three months, while challenging, have presented an opportunity to connect more deeply to the nature that surrounds us.

It has been a time of reflection, introspection a time of learning from, listening to and adapting to the rhythm and frequency of the earth.

Before the pandemic hit, we were seeing a slow and steady increase in the number of people visiting The Hive during the winter. Organized by Central Counties Tourism, York Durham Headwaters & Durham Tourism, we were fortunate to be included in a Durham Tour for a group of Toronto Bloggers in February it was a wonderful winter retreat with an amazing group of people.

We are also grateful for the feature in a recent issue of Spark Centre's Business & Innovation Magazine!

Now that we are open again, we will be adapting to the COVID-19 environment by taking precautions and making changes. Bear with us as we shift to an updated model to serve us all better.

We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

The Hive Accomodations

We are taking proactive steps in accordance with Workplace Safety & Prevention Services to help ensure health and safety at The Hive Centre and Accommodations.
We have implemented a number of guidelines to help reduce exposure to and transmission of a range of illnesses, including COVID-19. We will amend and adjust these guidelines at regular intervals as the situation develops.
Guidelines

Number of People
At present, we will host a maximum number of 10 people in the house at a time.

Length of Stay
We are implementing a 2-night minimum on weekends to accommodate a staggered turn-over rate. This will to allow for more time to disinfect, clean and air out the house.

Full House Bookings
We will be encouraging full house bookings with the ability to rent the full house at a reduced rate and with special full house rates throughout the week.

Full House Weekend Rate (Friday, Saturday)
$900/night x 2 nights = $1,800
Use of 6 rooms, 1-10 people in individual or shared beds

Full House Weekday Rate (Monday - Thursday)
$690/night
Use of 4 rooms, 1-8 people in individual or shared beds

Individual Room Bookings
While we are currently accepting single room bookings, we will be dividing individuals on two separate floors where possible.

Social Distancing
There are many common areas in the house and on the decks to allow for a distance of 6 feet between guests of The Hive.

Food Preparation
Due to the current environment, self-serve breakfast will not be provided. The kitchen is available to use for those who reserve a full house.

Payment and Check-In
Where possible, payments will be made by credit card or e-transfer. A phone number will be provided to text upon arrival for virtual check-in.

Cleaning
Our cleaning frequency and scope has increased. Hand sanitizer and spray bottles will be provided for guests to clean high contact surfaces.

Increasing Air Flow
We open windows regularly to help increase air-flow in the house. During the summer, we advise guests to open windows during the evening when the temperature is cooler and to close windows upon waking.

We are interested in your feedback and appreciate any questions or concerns that you have. Please contact us with questions or to reserve the house or a room.

The Hive is honoured to be featured in the latest edition of the Spark Centre's Business & Innovation Magazine.

Let's Chat!

Lead by VividLife’s Shayne Traviss, The Hive's Elsii Faria participated in an an inspirational and interactive chat to discuss what we are experiencing, how we feel about it, and how we can create a more sustainable world inside and out.
We were grateful to share thoughts about sustainability via The Hive Centre and 1COMMUNITY1. Read Elsii Faria's "Calling Us Home" newsletter to learn about her view.
It was a full zoom room with interesting perspectives and insights on how people are navigating this unchartered territory. What a great ending with Jeremiah Hill’s beautiful version of “Feeling Good”. #ItsANewDawn #ItsANewDay
